My husband and I ate there last Saturday. We have travelled through Italy extensively and reading the reviews, we thought it exciting to have a good Italian restaurant near home. My two stars are mostly for the great service from our waiter. He was pleasant, courteous, attentive and seemed to just appear when needed. The decor is tacky with its plastic plants. Our food was unbelievably garlicky. Garlic, when so heavy handed, eliminates any possibility of tasting anything else! What happened to the beautiful freshness and bursts of richness of mediterranean herbs, spices and homemade contents? Even the tiniest pizza joints in Italy give food that is unbelievably varied and bursting with zing and taste. Burying real flavour under a barrage of garlic may fill you up and taste like... well: garlic. But it is hardly the only taste of Italy. I appreciate garlic, but it is not the only ingredient that makes food interesting, or tasty. Sorry, the name of this place should be more like: Poppy's Italian-NO!
To some of the other posters who question the "Italian" aspects of the food not being authentic, perhaps it's because they are not Italian, but are Iranian.
Several friends (8-10) and I have dined for lunch at Poppy's twice a month for the last year. They have permitted us to play cards/games there after lunch....between the lunch and dinner time when the restaurant is not busy. Today we had lunch and some of us wanted to substitute a salad for the rosotto, which we have been doing all along. Today we were charged an extra $5 for the salad. When we asked why the owner came out and started screaming at us and telling us he doesn't care how long we have been coming there, that he was going to charge us. Then he started to yell at us for occupying the tables for a few hours and we "used two tablecloths!! He was extremely rude! We have never been treated in such a shabby way!
Ordered delivery with delivery dudes kinda pricey, but definitely worth it. Sauce was perfect, peppers were large, and the cheese was fresh. All together a great pizza experience. Thanks
The servers are great and that is the ONE good thing about this place.
Poppy's has some of the most delicious Italian food I've eaten. Everything is house made and you can tell.
The Linguine and Clams were nothing like I have ever had before. Each bite was like eating a spoonful of sand. In the sauce you could see the sand. Unbelievable! This is my favorite Italian dish but not at this restaurant. I asked the server if this was normal. Her response "Maybe the shells had sand on them". Well then I think they should be rinsed better.
